Anyone ever listen to this song and just come away from it feeling like everything is pointless?

I can't say it has ever made me feel that way. For me this song really humbles me to reflect on my faith and how I live it (or lack of living it). But in the end it encourages me.

This song hit me hard. I have a hard time getting through it without tearing up or just flat out crying. It combines two of the things that I struggle with, lack of faith, and passing of friends/family. I love the part where he just yells 'I will miss him' No metaphors. He doesn't reference the sun setting or leaves falling or flowers wilting. Just raw emotion missing his friend. And the part where he compares his faith and actions to his friend. He says that he isn't sure somtimes if he even believes at all. And that sometimes he feels like a fake. I can relate to that!! I wish I knew the story behind the song.

You're in luck, here it is straight from the Roper's mouth...

"ESTRELLA - This poem is about my friend Matt Estrella who passed away last year [2002] due to complications from an operation to remove one of his many tumors. I made a Brave SaintSaturn song about him, and talked about this in the liner notes a little, but this is actually is a poem that I wrote while he was still alive. I showed it to him the last time that I saw him, and told him that I was working on a song too."

Roper, Reese. "More Than Paper Thin", p.93, Appendix G. 2004 Ministry of Defense: Department of Propaganda. First Edition.

When I get a chance I'll post the poem, so check back.

This song definitely doesn't make me feel everything is pointless, rather it makes me realize that most of the things I do are pointless.

There is so much more to life than what we live for... More than computers, video games, books, music... This song just makes me realize how much of my life I could be living for God rather than myself.

It's rather humbling.

Thanks Smile

I shared this song (as well as Resistor, since my little sister is going through some personal struggles, and my mom is having to deal with it) with my mom the other day.

She was very impressed with Reese (after having disliked Five Iron Frenzy for a while... mainly because of the Ska genre)

I dont want to seem that im takeing credit just because I have the name, or that im useing my Uncle Matt's credit, but its seriously honoring to know what Reese did for my uncle Matt and knowing how close he was to him. Reese is a great guy even the one time that Roper just HAPPENED to stop in our home town, my grandma really appreciates the song AND the poem, ill post it when i remember to grab it.

Other than that, if this song inspired you at all, plz honor my uncle matt, April 25th is his celebration of life.
